My favorite 44 cal XTP is the 300gr. Their 240-gr. tracking is also pretty easy with 2 holes pouring out blood. I never recovered one. Their 240-gr. but none of the deer dressed over 120#. I handload my Ruger redhawk 44,in a 7 1/2 bbl; Handi rifle in 444 and 44 mag, all with 240gr, XTP.

Good luck! However, the 240 jacketed almost always exit leaving a good blood trail through both sides and are a good all around bullet for Deer and regular hogs.
Yes they killed deer, but I like for a bullet to exit and a 240 would have. I am also a fan of cast at the 1100 fps range. Had it been a larger deer I probably would not have shot. The gun is rated to a 240 grain bullet but because of the smaller frame size I tried the smaller bullet. As I much prefer exit wounds, I like cast bullets for most any game, particularly for hogs and/or larger big game! You could have put a 16 oz. I was concerned about the weight..

Do not use reduced loads less than10 percent on either 296 or H110 and do not use cast bullets in the auto rifles or pistols. Hornady Custom ammunition is manufactured to give shooters and hunters the advantage of hand-loaded accuracy in a factory load. Hornady is on top of the game with their 240-gr. Anyone Use Hornady 225gr FTX for Deer in 44 Mag? We looked for blood where he stood, there was none. I only use the FTX 225 gr out of my .44 H&R single shot. its loaded pretty hot, hot enough that its only 4 inches low at 200 yards (target tested). to be honest its rare anymore that i shoot any handgun even the linebaughs at speeds over 1100 fps. I like this bullet so much that i tried to use it in 54 cal inline Remington MZ. For the really big stuff Bear, Buffalo, ELK, and Moose the cast 275 LBT ( lowest weight) and the top choice 300 gr LBT have been the best choice for me.
