I'm no historian, but I don't recall any amphibious invasions with more than a few armored vehicles until proper tanks can be offloaded from the landing ships. They have the same +10% soft and +400% hard attack as regular mech, and they still stack infantry equipment and the mech equipment so they offer more breakthrough than the marines, but I don't think it really justifies the cost unless you are going for extreme tactical advantage, in which case go for it, they are better than marines.
