Unlike many north Georgia lakes, Nottely is a fertile reservoir with low fishing pressure, making it one of the best bass fishing lakes in the region. The park maintains a 22-acre lake that welcomes non-motorized boats. Reservoir features a beach and camping area and is a great place for viewing wildlife. With its proximity to the Chattahoochee National Forest, Cohutta National Forest, and other wildlife management areas, Nottely Lake visitors can enjoy a wide variety of camping experiences beyond the lake. This reservoir is a Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) project located in Union County, Georgia. For info concerning attractor locations call the Wildlife Resources Division office at 770-535-5498. Lake Nottely was built in 1942 by the Tennessee Valley Authority through the damming of the Nottely River for flood control. Blairsville, also located in Union County, is the closest town. Largemouth bass make up about 70 percent of the black bass species in this lake, and this lake also is one of only three Georgia reservoirs to nurture bronzebacks. Unfortunately, because Nottely Lake is gradually drawn down by 30-40 feet in late summer, access to this lake can become difficult. The shoreline is home to hundreds of private residential home sites, but the recreation area is open to the public and features a beach and camping area. Poteete Creek Park offers lake access, a sandy beach swimming area, campground, boating ramps and picnic facilities.
